Games with Bourgeoisie

Games with the Bourgeoisie – that is the name Miuccia Prada has chosen for her new Fall-Winter 2009 footwear collection within Miu Miu line. The shoes in the collection are notable in their sophisticated, yet laconic shapes, and highly unusual designs. To be honest, the footwear is very unlikely to become everyday wear, due to a virtual lack of practicality. This might however be the trick – after all extravagance and eccentricity are one of the really efficient ways of attracting both, the media and the public. Although, we do have to admit that some of the items in the collection can be perfectly suitable for office wear.

In fact, Miuccia Prada really does play with the bourgeoisie by drawing a thin line between simplicity and luxury, style and ridicule, harmony and kitsch.

The Fall-Winter 2009 footwear collection includes three major styles khaki shoes, furred shoes and satin shoes.

KHAKI SHOES

This style is best fitted for everyday wear and includes shoes and ankle boots in khaki.

FURRED SHOES

This style obviously includes shoes with fur decorum. And of course Prada uses fur in the most unexpected places.

The most unexpected solution is shoes with a furred heel. Models on the podium wear these shoes on the artificial snow, but what do we do if the snow is real?

The shoes look a little too simple for a night out, and to be honest choosing an evening dress that would match would also be quite a drag.

SATIN SHOES

And last but not least, the satin shoes. The shoes are decorated with a great number of sparkling and shiny elements. Miuccia Prada suggests that these shoes be worn with no less colorful and sophisticated socks and stockings.

All in all, the collection is certainly interesting, but ill-equipped for  real life. So it is a personal choice of each individual, whether to treat it as a cry for attention or as art, that takes boldness and courage to be worn.
